Joe Scalissi Profile

By Brian D’Ambrosio

Madison native Joe Scalissi has spent 15 years as one of the world’s most convincing impersonators of Dean Martin. From the moment Scalissi takes the stage, dressed in a distinguished vintage tuxedo, requisite cocktail in hand, he wins over the audience with his singing, witticism, and spitting image Dean Martin mannerisms.

Scalissi, 44, a former Golden Gloves boxer and corrections officer, has found a quirky niche as a consummate showman who brings the suave essence of Dean Martin to each performance of “That’s Amore”, “Everybody Loves Somebody”, “Ain’t That a Kick in the Head?”, and “Mambo Italiano.” He performs solo or sometimes with various Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis Jr. imitators for the authentic "Rat Pack" experience.

Scalissi’s career as a tribute artist began at his parents' wedding anniversary celebration in 1993. He was persuaded to take center stage to sing his mother’s favorite song "Volare". “I booked my very first show that night,” said Scalissi. “There was a couple in the crowd who asked me if I would perform at their wedding."

In 1998 Scalissi made the jump to full-time entertainer. Since then, his warm baritone, deadpan quips, zest for entertainment, and complementary Dean Martin etiquette has perked up crowded show rooms across the United States.

“Dean Martin was the very king of cool,” said Scalissi. “I do my best to honor that Martin mystique.”
